This 18 x 18 inch pillow is made from fabric custom-printed with a piece from a 17th-century Japanese silk weaving. One side of the pillow shows the cropped textile, while the other side shows the textile piece in its entirety as displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's archives, including its catalog number!
To make the pillow, the design is printed onto special paper, and then transferred using heat and pressure to become part of the fabric. This sublimation process creates a soft, breathable, vibrantly colored material.
The fabric is pre-shrunk polyester — soft and durable. The pillowcase is machine washable, with a concealed zipper. The resilient polyester filling insert retains its shape, and can be washed by hand.
