Alien Gynecology Exercises?

The “aliens” in these drawings were created 65 years before the grey aliens they're reminiscent of.

These drawings were no doubt thought of by the artist — I haven't been able to decipher his or her name — as stylized “stick figures”, employed to de-sexualize the situations illustrated: male doctor and female patient (this was in 1895) doing odd things.

Swedish gynecologist Thure Brandt invented these exercises and began using them to treat women in 1861. They aim to cure various gynecological conditions with a combination of massage, stretching, and exercise.

By the end of the 19th century, these exercises were widely used in Europe, although I can’t find any evidence that they’re still used today.

You can read the original source in German, and see the original diagrams. The book’s called Die Heilgymnastik in der Gynaekologie: und die mechanische Behandlung von Erkrankungen des Uterus und seiner Adnexe nach Thure Brandt, which translates something like “The physiotherapy in gynecology and the mechanical treatment of diseases of the uterus and its appendages by Thure Brandt”.
